Hawzah News Agency- Allam noted that disobedience to parents is among the sins for which God may hasten punishment in this world before the afterlife.
"God Almighty has forbidden disobedience to parents and has set grave consequences for it," Allam said in a statement previously published on Egypt's Dar al-Ifta website.
The former mufti cited a saying attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): "There are two gates for which punishment is hastened in this world: oppression and disobedience to parents."
Allam explained that the dangers of parental disobedience extend beyond worldly punishment, reaching into the hereafter. He said it is among the sins that can lead to exclusion from paradise, referencing another prophetic tradition stating that three types of people will not enter heaven: a disobedient child, a habitual drunkard, and one who reminds others of favors granted.
He clarified that the term "disobedience" refers to any significant harm caused to one's father or mother, whether through words or actions—except in cases involving a command to sin against God or where the parents themselves are acting unreasonably.
"Kindness to parents is among the greatest acts of worship and obedience," Allam stressed, adding that children must observe the rights of their parents and be mindful not to cause them distress through speech or behavior.
He underscored that Islamic law assigns an elevated status to parents and considers kindness toward them among the most important obligations, second only to belief in the oneness of God.
